Toe Surgery Cost and Insurance

Patients often want to know the cost of toe surgery before their first appointment. Because every foot is different, a final quote can only be given after examination and X-rays – but this page explains what affects the fee and how to pay for treatment.

What affects the cost of toe surgery?

  • Number of toes – correcting one toe costs less than correcting several.
  • One foot or both – operating on both feet in one session is usually more cost-effective than two separate operations.
  • Type of procedure – a simple tendon release costs less than a fusion or shortening osteotomy.
  • Fixation – internal implants cost more than temporary wires, but often allow an earlier return to shoes.
  • Combined surgery – toe correction performed alongside bunion surgery is priced as one package.
  • Hospital and anaesthetic – the fee includes the hospital and anaesthetic costs.

Self-funding: what is included

After your consultation you receive a written, itemised estimate covering the surgeon’s fee, hospital charges, anaesthetic and follow-up appointments. There are no hidden charges on the day.

Paying monthly

Toe surgery is carried out at The Weymouth Street Hospital, which offers monthly payment plans through a finance partner. Following your consultation, you will have a full breakdown of fees so you can arrange the option that suits you.

Using private medical insurance

Surgery to correct a painful toe deformity – hammer toe, claw toe, mallet toe, crossover toe or a long toe causing symptoms – is generally covered by UK private medical insurers. Mr Nazir is recognised by the major UK insurers. Before your operation:

  1. Check your policy covers outpatient consultations and day surgery.
  2. Obtain a pre-authorisation number from your insurer for the consultation.
  3. After assessment, we provide the procedure codes so you can authorise the surgery.

Purely cosmetic procedures are not usually covered by insurance.

NHS or private?

Toe surgery is available on the NHS when it is causing significant problems, but waiting times can be long and cosmetic concerns are not treated. Private treatment offers a choice of surgeon, prompt dates and access to techniques such as keyhole toe surgery.

Consultation fees

An initial consultation with Mr Nazir includes a full assessment of your foot and a discussion of treatment options. X-rays are often arranged on the same day. The team will confirm the current consultation fee when you book.

Cost FAQs

How much does hammer toe surgery cost in the UK?

Self-funded prices vary with the number of toes, the technique and the hospital. You will receive a written estimate after assessment. Read more about hammer toe surgery.

How much does toe shortening cost?

It depends on how many toes and whether one or both feet are treated. See toe shortening surgery.

Can I get a quote from photographs?

Photos help, but an accurate quote needs examination and usually X-rays. A remote video consultation is available for patients outside London.
